On March 5th, the preliminary evaluation of the 3rd Hainan International Yacht Design Award was successfully concluded. According to the organizing Committee, the competition has garnered extensive attention from the industry since its launch, with a total of 110 design works collected, including 11 overseas entries from seven countries: the United States, Italy, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Both the number of applicants and entries have hit a record high in the competition's history, fully demonstrating its growing international influence and industrial appeal.

Closely aligned with the cutting-edge trends of the yacht industry's development, this year's competition features two themed tracks. Track 1 focuses on catamarans ranging from 45 to 55 feet in length, tailored for family vacations, encouraging the adoption of innovative technologies such as green materials, new energy power systems, and intelligent control systems. Track 2 targets ocean-going intelligent expedition superyachts with a length of no less than 100 feet, recommending a cruising range of over 5,000 nautical miles and the integration of artificial intelligence navigation assistance systems and professional expedition equipment. In terms of yacht layout and interior style, the competition specially advocates the incorporation of local cultural elements such as Hainan Li ethnic totems, ocean waves, and coconut groves, or the combination of Southeast Asian tropical styles with Chinese garden aesthetics. This drives the in-depth integration of culture and design, highlighting the unique charm and global vision of "Hainan Design".

In terms of participation forms, the competition has attracted 14 institutional entries, 16 group entries, and 75 individual applicants, boasting a wide coverage and diverse structure, which fully reflects the high attention and active participation of all sectors of society in the field of yacht design. Among them, 48 works were received for Track 1 and 62 for Track 2, with rich themes and brilliant creativity, comprehensively presenting the new ideas, explorations and forces in the current yacht design field. After a rigorous selection by the evaluation panel, 16 works were finally shortlisted for Track 1 and 15 for Track 2.

As an important practice for Hainan to build a "Pilot Zone for the Reform, Development and Innovation of the Yacht Industry" and a "Hainan International Design Island", this competition not only provides a professional platform for global design talents to showcase their talents and exchange ideas, but also effectively boosts the rise and growth of China's local design forces. By guiding design to focus on cutting-edge directions such as green development, intelligence and cultural integration, the competition is gradually building a design innovation ecosystem integrating industry, academia, research and application. It helps open up the supply and demand channels of the yacht industry, promotes the coordinated development of the industrial chain, and injects a steady stream of creative momentum into the high-quality development of the yacht industry in Sanya and even the whole country.

It is reported that the final evaluation stage will commence in late March. Award-winning contestants will be invited to attend the award ceremony, which will be held during the Sanya International Yacht Zone event of the 6th China International Consumer Products Expo (CICPE) from April 15 to 18, to witness the emergence of new stars in yacht design together.

Guided by the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Hainan Province and supported by the Bureau of Science, Technology, Industry and Information Technology of Sanya City, the 3rd Hainan International Yacht Design Award is hosted by the Sanya Central Business District Administration Bureau, undertaken by Sanya Business District Development Group Co., Ltd. and Hainan International Yacht Trading Co., Ltd.. With the tenet of "Facing the Future, Yacht Design Leads Industrial Development" and the vision of "Making Yacht Design Serve People's Daily Life", the competition is gradually becoming an important window for Chinese yacht design to go global and for global design to converge in China.
